There! I can see it! Love within my grasp! I reach for it, it slips away, I knew it wouldn’t last. Now life has drained away, Smashed up all my dreams, Breaking down and broken, Dying more each day it seems. I was at first so happy, Now all has fallen apart, Tearing open my insides, And ripping out my heart. In this flailing madness, What I once loved now despised, I cower at the sight of you, Covering my eyes. In this bitter madness, What I once loved now is lost, And as I look back at the war, I see I paid a greater cost.
